NFC has wised up - how commercial uses have helped develop the technology

Near Field Communication (NFC) is not a behind the scenes technology. It is very much a hands on innovation, which takes up a position on the front line of modern sales. For this reason, every time we design a product range, we need to take into consideration the practicalities which come with relying on a small tag in the form of a sticker, card or otherwise, to do the job.

Enhancing product protection

Take our Tamper Proof Tags, for instance. We design them so they are immediately disabled as soon as they are tampered with. What this does is make them suitable for a wide range of uses which require a high emphasis to be placed on privacy or identity. Think anything from asset tracking to certification, and vehicle identification to NFC use for anti counterfeit purposes.

Made of the tough stuff

Commercial use of NFC might not be at its most profile behind the factory doors in the manufacturing world, but in this industry it has come into its element. Uses such as acting as asset tracking tools, as mentioned above, have revolutionised logistics and resource management on industrial premises. But as we know, these can be quite inhospitable places for any technology which might be considered delicate. That's why producing a range of robust and resilient NFC Tags for industrial purposes is high up on our agenda - in many cases, not only do they offer an unrivalled level of durability, they are also heat resistant, water proof and easily applied to metal surfaces.

A new twist on old favourites

Like the products we have detailed above, some tools of the trade have stood the test of time as reliable and durable in many different environments. All we have done at NFC Direct is simply enhanced these items with NFC technology. For example, our NFC Cable Ties are easily affixed at many different locations on the factory floor, and have been recognised for decades for the versatility and security they provide. Similarly, soil markers with a whole range of horticultural uses are now empowered with NFC technology in our product range.

NFC Products are getting smarter all the time, and the improvements will continue to come as an increasing number of industries switch on to ways the technology can simplify their work processes.

The technology behind Contactless
The technology behind Contactless

Over the past year, keeping our distance from people and objects has become part of life, as the world has adapted to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic. That's pushed Contactless technology to a more prominent position. But when we talk about Contactless, what do we mean? How does the technology work? And which uses does it have? That's what we will discuss in this blog.

What we discovered from ABI Research's study into the NFC Tags market

We'd like to applaud ABI Research for a fantastic study into the current uses of silicon-based Near Field Communication (NFC) Tags across different industries, and the future of the field. The name of the study - 'NFC Tags Ready for the Mainstream' - does a neat job of summarising the findings, but in this blog, we would like to delve a little deeper into the results of the research.
