Description:

The rapid growth we have seen in Near Field Communication (NFC) over the past decade has mirrored the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) - that is the networks and sub-networks of connected objects which can communicate with each other.

IoT infrastructures are ideal for use with NFC Readers, allowing information to be extracted from these connected objects in real time, offering a number of potential benefits to organisations.

Our range of NFC Modules work in a very similar way to NFC Tags. All it takes is an NFC Reader, such as a smartphone, to tap onto an IoT connected object or appliance and obtain information in real time, which can be used for many immediate and analytical purposes.

We currently provide NFC Modules in the following sizes:

  • 8.0 x 6.0 x 1.35mm

This NFC Module utilises both a chip and an antenna, benefitting from a dual interface of both I2C and 13.56Mhz. It offers a wide range of uses, having the ability to form part of IoT networks in consumer electronics, sensors and energy harvesting devices in surface-mount technology (SMT) processes.

Its popular applications include as a smart device on washing machines which can record washing habits and offer energy saving tips; to facilitate accurate set up of an LED driver for energy efficient lighting; for 'e-paper displays' which are completely energy-neutral electronic displays powered by NFC; and a range of other 'smart devices', from smart watches to treadmills and home appliances.

  • 4.9 x 3.0 x 2.5mm

This NFC Module is designed to operate on metal and, similar to the NFC IoT Module above, empowers objects in an IoT network with NFC functionality. This allows objects to transfer data in real time to an NFC reading device, such as a smartphone.

  • 4.0 x 2.0 x 2.0mm

This is the smallest option in our NFC Modules range and is designed to operate in 'free air'. With a size comparable to approximately 10 per cent of a 1p coin, this NFC Module's modest dimensions mean that it is suitable for a wide range of uses in IoT networks, and can be used in operating temperatures from -40 °C up to 85 °C.
